Getting Regocnized
One of my life's biggest ironies is that with weights varying from 350 to 400lbs since 2012, during all that time I have been the IT Director for a chain of health clubs. It's a mostly remote job, but every once in a while I do have to show up to put hands on some misbehaving piece of tech. I can go months without seeing anyone from that company, doing the majority of my work via email and a remote control program called TeamViewer.
Last week I had to go to one of the locations about 20 miles away from where I live. I hadn't been there since before I went to the hospital in mid-December, about 30 pounds ago.
I had to meet with the General Manager and the Fitness Director. The Fitness Director hadn't seen me face to face in a little under a year, I think. She turned the corner and saw me standing next to and talking with the General Manager and she did that thing people do when they look you over head to toe. Her eyebrows went way, way up and she smiled and said the most beautiful phrase in the English language after "I love you."
"You have lost a significant amount of weight!" Followed by "You look amazing!"
To hear that from anyone is wonderful. To hear it from one of the fittest women I have ever known, it felt amazing!
Earlier this week, I had lunch with a friend I hadn't seen in three years. We met in the parking lot of one of my absolute favorite restaurants. I saw him drive up and got out of my truck. He did the same thing the Fitness Director did. His jaw literally dropped and he said that same thing. "You have lost a ton of weight!"
We had a great lunch. I had a cucumber and avocado salad that was beyond delicious. That night for dinner Annie and I had a rice/shrimp/chorizo dish she makes that also is one of my absolute favorites. The next morning my fasting blood sugar reflected my good eating habits: 102.
It's just thrilling when people notice you've lost weight! Especially the ones you haven't seen for a while, they *really* see the difference, so proud of you!!! *high-fives*
